2012 American Casino Guide- Review
I live just 10 minutes outside of Atlantic City, New Jersey, also known as “America’s Favorite Playground” so when I saw an opportunity to review a book about casinos AND coupons, how could I pass that up? I contacted Steve Borie, the writer and editor of the 2012 American Casino Guide and offered to write up a review. I have worked in 3 of the casinos here in AC and I am not a big gambler, but we do go down to Trump Plaza and stay a few nights- eating in their restaurants and swimming in the pool, or if its summer, on the beach. I felt that I’d be a good match for the review, so he sent me a copy for free in exchange for my honest opinion on the book. I spent the last few days going over it, and here’s what I have to say about it.
Being from Jersey, I flipped right to the chapter about NJ casinos. I have to say, I learned some things that I did not know.Such as Resorts International was the first casino to open in NJ in 1978 and it was standing room only. Standing room only?! Wow, I can’t imagine that! I enjoy sitting at a slot machine with a nice drink and having a spin. I would have hated to stand. I I thought that was a neat fun fact.
This guide gives a listing of ALL the casinos in the United States-which is 40 states( I had no idea that many states had casinos!) and over 700 casinos! It also includes river boat casinos and Indian casinos, as well. So you can get all the information about the casinos, the area, and lots of other information. Phone numbers, addresses, websites, the types of games at the establishment, the number of rooms and restaurants, discounts, and parking information. It also includes room and suite rates, buffet and dining rates, and any unique services offered by the resort, which I thought was excellent.
I was really surprised about the amount of information packed into this 496 page book. The book starts off by telling you all about “Your Best Casino Bets” breaking down the various table games and slots, to give you a better understanding of how the games are played and what the percentages are. It also gives information about Casino Comps(which can be used for food, shopping, and more), Slot Machine Trends for 2012, How To Keep Your Edge in Video Poker, 21 Mistakes Made by Blackjack Players, and much much more.
Now, my favorite part of the guide, obviously was the amount of COUPONS! You can find 198 coupons worth more than $1,000 in savings at casinos and travel companies across the US. Among these coupons, you can find FREE(yes, I said FREE!) buffets, hotel rooms, slot plays, money for betting, and so MUCH MORE! The majority of the coupons were for the resorts in Nevada(bummer!) but a lot of people do fly out for trips. I do feel in the next issue they should include coupons for AC(not because I live here) but because Atlantic City does a huge business in day trips or overnight trips, bus trips, etc. Mainly because its located at a main point in the tri sate area, allowing people to come in from different places, where as Nevada, it has to be a few day to a week trip with the flying and all. But that’s just my opinion.
The book as I mentioned, is written and edited by Steve Bourie. Mr. Bourie is well qualified to write a book of this nature as he has more than 35 years experience in gaming and is a former marketing executive at a South Florida gambling facility. His American Casino Guide has been published every year since 1992 and is the best selling book on gaming in the US.
I really found this book to be exceptional-between the amount of information provided and the savings- this book is truly a gambler’s win.
So, now where can you purchase the 2012 American Casino Guide? You can find it in book stores or at AAA locations for just $18.95. It can also be purchased on Amazon.com or AmericanCasinoGuide.com or by calling the
publisher at (800) 741-1596.
Enjoy!

Book Review: Blaze of Glory by M. Garzon
I am definitely not the target audience for this book( I am not a teenage girl, I do not have a passion for horses even though as a teen we had 3 horses), but when I came across the blog Because I Tried It, and Casie, the blogger was asking for some people to help with reviews, I decided to give it a go.
Blaze of Glory by M. Garzon is a novel about a 17 year old girl named Tea(pronounced Tay-a) who is involved in the horse circuit. She has a very intense love of riding, until one day, she loses it all due to a horrific event. The book’s description on Amazon.com says this: “Last year, I had it all. Two jumpers on the show circuit, a lot of wins, and a lot of attention – the good kind. But now I have nothing. My life is circling the drain. The only spark of light that exists for me is my new, forbidden passion. If my stepfather finds out, he will kill me. My twin brother, my only blood relative in the world, has already begged me not to. But I can’t help myself. If it can’t be horses, it has to be this.”
I am pretty sure that the entire reason I chose to review this book was based solely upon two things: 1, I HAD to find out just what her passion HAS to be if not horses. And 2, Blaze of Glory is an excellent Bon Jovi song.
Anyhow, M. Garzon is a new-to-me author, and I have to tell you, she seriously brings every single character to life. She is a powerful and descriptive writer, allowing you to be fully immersed in the characters and their lives. I love an author who really becomes their character, and makes them 100% believable.
Blaze of Glory is an easy read and it keeps you so intrigued that you just can’t put it down. The book is more than just horses(although I love how the horses are so well written and portrayed- each has their own personality just as they do in real life.) its also about a young girl struggling with temptation, about love and romance, and relationships.
I definitely would give this book 5 stars- at first I had my doubts- but it really turned out to be an amazing read. I definitely recommend buying this book, downloading to your eReader, or checking it out from your local library.
Enjoy!

Book Review: Everything Romance by David Bordon and Tom Winters
With Valentine’s Day just passing, I had an opportunity to review a really creative and fun book called, Everything Romance: A Celebration of Love for Couples written by David Bordon and Tom Winters.
This book is chock full of love quotes-”"Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.” Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
And it has some great recipes such as “Let’s Get Saucy” Southwestern BBQ Sauce or “Love Apple” Basil Soup.
It also has a very diverse collection of love poems, excerpts from the Bible about love, terrific date ideas, fun facts about love, relationships, and marriages, and lots of sweet love letters.
I found this book to be a very sweet read, filled with lots of great suggestions and the power to remind us of why we fell in love with our boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife.
This book would make an excellent gift for that special someone in your life. And it may even encourage them-or you!- to do something a little sweeter than the norm.
A little about the authors:
David Bordon is a partner with Tom Winters in Bordon-Winters, LLC, a book concept and packaging company that produces successful books and gift products. Together, they have written previous titles that include the 101 Things You Should Do series, especially the popular 101 Things You Should Do Before Going to Heaven.

I really enjoyed this book and found it to be refreshing. Its rare to find something positive about love these days, what with people only staying married for 72 days.
Happy Reading!

Fierce Beauty by Kim Meeder Book Review
I decided to read this book because in the last few months, I have really been looking for some sort of spiritual guidance in my life. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for. I went to a new church that was non denominational, and loved it. But I’m still not entirely sure what it is I am searching for… So when I stumbled upon this book, I figured it was worth reading, and I am SO glad I did.
Kim Meeder is an outstanding author. Her ability to write and describe in detail is nothing short of amazing. In the first chapter, she is describing a climb she took with her father, and she REALLY brought me there. I could see everything clearly. The majestic beauty of the mountains, the cool chill in the air, the feelings she felt at that moment. Its been quite some time that I encountered an author who could so accurately describe and bring to life what she was writing.
Ms. Meeder unravels a story about what it means to have real beauty, not what today’s society brain washes us to believe. She tells us this by allowing us to enter her life, telling us about personal experiences that she has encountered, that led her to find her strong faith and bond with her God.
Through out the story, Ms. Meeder talks about a great deal of things that young women in the world today have to face, and what society deems beautiful or not, and how to handle these situations and become a strong young woman even in the face of diversity.
Her book touched me on a level that I wasn’t prepared for. It taught me about what is really important, and what isn’t it. It really made me reconsider and re evaluate all the things I thought I knew.
Kim Meeder writes a very well written story, and I highly recommend picking it up for a read. Click HERE to read the first few pages. Or you can click HERE and check out a video regarding Fierce Beauty.
If you decide to read this book, I hope you enjoy it! And leave me a comment and let me know what you thought!
